I've had a number of fighters contact me thinking they need a winning record to get sponsored.
Here's what some of them have said to me:
“I have more losses than wins, can I still get sponsored?”
“It seems like sponsors don’t want to be there unless you win your fights. But you can’t win them all.”
“I’m not confident talking to sponsors because I’m still an amateur fighter, and don’t feel like I’ve proven myself due to my losing record.”
That thinking is dead wrong.
And now, let me put your mind at ease.
The majority of sponsors do NOT require you to have a winning record. In fact, most aren’t concerned with your record at all.
Here’s what they want from you:
- A large, relevant, fan base
- Promote them (the sponsor) to your fan base
You can do both of those things even if you have a losing record, and/or fighting ammy.
Aim to win, obviously, but don't let the fear of "I don't have wins" hold you back.
That's just an irrational fear. Push it aside and move forward.
Do that and you'll have sponsors before you know it!
